English has become one of the most common languages for communication between people of various ethnicities around the world. And there is a good reason for that. The language is a blend of various ancient and new dialects and can easily absorb many words and concepts from other languages. On top of that English has also become the official language of many countries that have their national language as something else. Hence, English is one of the most important languages one should learn if you want to travel abroad, work in the professional sector or generally want to consume media and have a better understanding of the world. In this article we will see all the ways you can learn English as swiftly and easily as one can without having to spend on expensive courses.

Ways to learn English

One might think that you can only learn English if you either love in an English speaking country or if you get enrolled in an English course that has some crazy expensive fee. But that is not the case, today it has become quite easy to learn anything because of the modern technology and the various digital modes of communication. Let us get you some ideas to start your English speaking journey.

YouTube videos

Who isn’t familiar with YouTube today. It has become one of the most popular platform for content creation and content consumption mediums. You can find many channels that are created by native English speakers who will teach you the language in depth starting from the grass root level. Have a look around and find a good YouTube channel that is teaching English. Start from their first video and follow what they tell you about the language, its grammar and basics. Start practicing it afterwards.

Fill English kids’ books

Have you seen those kids books where you can fill in the blanks and give names to fruits, shapes and colours. You can even complete some basic simple grammar sentences. Get one of those and make a habit of filling one page or exercise a day. This will help you in understanding how the basic English sentences are made and what form of verb or what tense to use where. One more thing that will help you immensely is to teach little kids. If you have your own kids, then start teaching them English from their books and if you don’t, then teach the kids in your family or area. Spend time with them solving exercises and check your answers on Google or YouTube.

Watch English news channels or movies

Simply knowing what to say isn’t enough when you need to learn how to speak and especially how to pronounce the words. So the best way to do that is to watch any news channels or movies that have a great accent and you can easily understand the words. This will teach you to use the right pronunciation and also to use the right tenses at the right time. Movies is a good option if you want to get entertained along with learning but sometimes they use slang and casual language in the films and entertainment dramas. For this try to look for old classics or movies that use less slang and more professional English. You can learn accents as well as the use of correct sentences through seasons and movies.

Speak with people around you

Now this can be a bit tricky because most of the time people tend to feel shy speaking in a foreign language in front of other’s. One major reason for that is the laughter that might come from others or the criticism. Most people are not able to make progress in English because they are not able to speak it in the public with people and thus cannot practice it enough. If you want to learn English, you will need to overcome this shyness and fear and converse in the language more and more. However, one good way to start this is, pick a person you know is supportive and encouraging. Someone who will not make fun of you nor will they taunt if you make a mistake. Start speaking with them in English when you are not surrounded by people and slowly you’ll see a difference in your confidence as well as your English speaking skills.

Learn one sentence and practice it all day

Any language that you are starting as a beginner, can be overwhelming. There is sentence structure, grammar and often the verbal is different than the written. In a situation like this, the best way to learn English is to start small. One thing at a time. This means, start from basic sentences and learn one complete sentence a day, then practice it all day in various situations. That can be a question as well. For example, you can pick a question and apply it in different situations all day.

So let us just say you picked, where have you been? Now you can ask this question to different people throughout the day. In fact, you can also ask this to your belongings when no one is watching. So you found a book that was lost, say to it, where have you been? A cup you couldn’t find and then found? ask the cup Where have you been cup? This might seem funny right now but trust me, it will help you a lot because with items, you’ll know they won’t talk back or taunt.

Lastly, just keep going one word, one sentence at a time. Anything new can be hard in the beginning but it requires consistency and hard work. Keep learning and speaking English every day and imagine where you can go in a year. Day 1 you’ll learn 1 word but on day 365, you’ll be learning 365th word. Don’t lose hope and start taking English learning seriously. You will be able to learn it better than all others who stopped in the middle.
